Nicky Enright, Money Talks, 2012
audio + video projection, 12-minutes (highly compressed below)

This audio-video installation is based on the artist's anonymous financial $urvey taken by 88 artists. The answers were analyzed and the numbers were crunched. Using footage from the former Bank of Manhattan and words from the actual participants, the video gives voice to a large group of artists in difficult times. The result is a frank and detailed examination of the realities of this community – a snapshot of a financial moment. Presented in a dark, vault-like space underneath a former bank, as part of the exhibition “How Much Do I Owe You” organized by No Longer Empty, this work explores a taboo subject and shines a light on the secret life of money in the art world.
